Additional Digital Compass Information

Timex Expedition is returning to its roots with Trail Series, a collection of casual analog and accurate digital compass watches. Capturing key style elements from the best selling Expedition watches over the past ten years. The result is a collection of bold, rugged design combined with lightweight yet durable materials and easy-to-use technology.

What Customers Say About Digital Compass:

Nowhere in the advertising does it say "don't push the buttons underwater". Typical sleazy advertising on Timex's part in my opinion.

If the watch fails, it goes into the trash. I'm taking the watch diving next week and I will push buttons underwater.

Nice watch but totally useless if you want to use the compass under water. You can't even set it to compass mode and have it stay there for any length of time.

This is the absolute last Timex product I will ever buy. You have to keep pushing one of the buttons continually or else the compass will blank out to save battery life.

Once you get it the manual says "don't push the buttons underwater." Why in the world would Timex boast that the watch is water resistant to 100 meters if you can't access all the functions.

There were other models over the years, mixed in with various higher priced Swiss and Japanese timepieces. The LCD display also shows the day/month/date. Have replaced the battery once (in minutes, and without back-orders), and replaced the fabric/brown water-resistant leather strap with a new one, identical to the original. Timex watches seem to have always had a place in my life, going back to the black-faced analog model received as a present from my parents while in grade school. And though this watch gets knocked around a bit as it's generally worn while doing yard work, cycling, etc., the crystal is relatively scratch free. It has a daily alarm, and can be set for an hourly chime if you like. As the old TV commercial said, "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." and that's worth five stars to me.

I resisted, then went to a local nearby Target in hopes of finding a battery there. Can only say that this watch is hard to beat. This case also has a stainless steel back, and I find the combination excellent as my acid skin has corroded more than one expensive watch. I left within five minutes with an uninstalled battery, but wearing a Timex Expedition Digital Compass Watch, as you see on this page. It has a dark brown resin case with a matte finish, and a handy with silver-toned bezel ring ring with compass points.

Can still remember the luminous hands and numbers that seemed so fascinating at night. There are a number of other features, some of which I don't use, but have found that the compass does work fairly well, once one makes it through the rather cryptic instructions. In place of the luminous hands and numbers that I revered as a kid, it's digital and has a highly-visible Indiglo night-light display with a night mode feature that illuminates the display for about four seconds with the press of a button. A few years ago I was trying to get the battery replaces on a fairly costly Swiss watch, only to be told that the battery was supposedly "back-ordered" by two different local jewelers, each of whom wanted to sell me another upscale Swiss watch. What I like about this is that it keeps time, and does it well.

Good luck trying to find any support online from Timex (or anyone else) to do it yourself. (Yes, I calibrated it and set the declination). Timex will act like they're doing you a favor to replace the battery for you for half the price of the watch plus $7 for shipping.

The compass never worked well. The stopwatch was annoying to reset - by the time you've held the button long enough, the next race has started. At best it would be within 10 or 15 degrees, but quite often it was off by 180.

Don't buy this watch unless you plan on throwing it away when the battery dies. Why in the world would anyone design a watch that way. After this watch, I'm not going to throw away my money with Timex anymore.

Since I've already bought the battery, I could have just bought a new watch for the same price. Maybe I broke something when I disassembled it to get the new battery in, but I finally got the battery in and the watch reassembled and it still isn't running.

Long-lasting, accurate, easy to use, and durable. When we found that a) it was still in production and b) it was reasonably priced he was overjoyed and promptly ordered it from Amazon's marketplace. We're really happy with this product. The compass feature is an added bonus and useful as we're avid hikers and hunters. I purchased this brand watch for my husband four+ years ago, and it finally died (unsure as to cause). After looking around, he declared that there was NO other watch on the market he'd like as a replacement.

Comfortable to wear Very nice watch for the price. Compass seems to be pretty accurate and looks great.
